Estimated Length: 24 months 8 hr shifts

Requirements

The position(s) are data analysis in nature and relatively long term as they require a significant amount of training and on-the-job learning before proficiency is evident. The learning/training period can last 3 weeks or more, with the ability to make appropriate judgement calls and work semi-independently taking even longer. Duties include: 

• Analyze and review incoming traffic count data for completeness and accuracy
• Assess validity of results based on historical and nearby traffic data patterns  
• Use the Traffic Count Editor software in the review of traffic count data
• Use software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Maps/Earth, GIS, WinZip
• Make independent decisions about the quality of data received from traffic count contractors
• Work in a team environment where effective communication is critical
• Use Email and Windows Explorer for continual file management 
• Keep meticulous records, both written and computer based
• Prepare letters/tables for communications with Contractors regarding Acceptance/Rejection of Data
• Deal with challenges from traffic count contractors over rejected payment requests
• Perform database management, data entry, or other activities as trained and assigned

 The job may also require occasional field work to gain experience with the equipment and procedures used to collect the data to be analyzed and occasional physical labor (including some minor lifting) when assistance is required in the traffic monitoring lab/workshop located on the State Office Campus.

Additional Skill Level, Experience & Other Requirements:

•  Current experience in performing studies, analysis and review of statistical data:
  • Preferred experience was with traffic or highway data
  • Preferred knowledge of Traffic Count Editor software or equivalent
  • Preferred experience involved projects lasting longer than one year
• Current experience performing review and analysis of large data files:
  • Preferred experience in managing large data files (tens of thousands of records)
  • Preferred experience in using Email and Windows Explorer for continual file management
  • Preferred experience performing database management, data entry and record-keeping
• Current experience using business software:
  • Preferred experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Maps/Earth and WinZip
  • Preferred skill in Microsoft Excel and ESRI GIS
  • Preferred experience using online aerial photography and maps
• Current experience working in a team environment where effective communication is critical:
  • Preferred experience organizing tasks and exhibiting good planning skills
  • Preferred decision-making experience and ability to make judgment calls
  • Preferred experience with assessing patterns and recognizing anomalies as part of a team
• Current experience in communicating and corresponding with the public:
  • Preferred experience with evaluating Contractor-submitted data
  • Preferred experience in making independent decisions about quality of data received from contractors
  • Preferred experience reviewing, proofing and preparing correspondence for external release
