Requirements
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Business Analytics tools developing Reporting and Dashboards
• Preferable 2-3 years working experience with Railroad business
• Minimum of 7 years in Reporting and Analytics using Power BI - M Query, DAX, Data Modelling, RLS
• Minimum of 5 years in database technologies and strong SQL query writing skills, preferrable Oracle and SQL Server
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst certified preferred.
SUMMARY OF THE FUNCTION/ROLE
The Enterprise Asset Management Department of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) is seeking
One (1) temporary consultant to serve as PowerBI Developer.
This position is to provide critical PowerBI support for LIRR Enterprise Asset Management (EAM)
needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support LIRR Operational Analytics implementations from the initial business analysis,
system requirements and system design functions.
• Study, analyze and understand business requirements in context to business intelligence.
• Design and map data models to shift raw data into meaningful insights.
• Design and create interactive and visually appealing dashboards, reports, and data
visualizations using Power BI.
• Connect and integrate data from various sources, such as databases, spreadsheets, and
cloud services, into Power BI datasets.
• Clean, transform, and model data to ensure it is suitable for reporting and analysis.
• Develop and maintain reports and dashboards that provide valuable insights and
support data-driven decision-making.
• Optimize Power BI reports and queries for performance and responsiveness.
• Facilitate and lead requirements gathering workshops with the ability to identify and
analyze business needs.
• Identify areas of system optimization based on business processes.
• Implement security measures to ensure data confidentiality and compliance with data
protection regulations.
• Collaborate with business analysts, data engineers, and other stakeholders to
understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
• Create and maintain documentation for data models, report specifications, and best
practices.
• Provide training and support to end-users to enable them to effectively use Power BI
reports and dashboards.
• Develop strong data documentation about algorithms, parameters, models.
• Run DAX queries and functions in Power BI
• Identify the requirements and develop custom charts accordingly.
• Assist in implementation go-live and post-go-live activities.
• Support requests from users to research system problems or errors, and to assist in their
resolution.
QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Business
Administration, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist, with strong proficiency in
Power BI.
• Solid experience in SQL and working with relational databases.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to dissect large amounts of data.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively convey complex
information.
• Experience in the transportation especially in railroad industry is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in Business Analytics tools developing Reporting and
Dashboards
• 7+ years in Reporting and Analytics using Power BI - M Query, DAX, Data
Modelling, RLS
• 5+ years in database technologies and strong SQL query writing skills, preferrable
Oracle and SQL Server
• Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst certified preferred.
• Experience of UX (user experience) design and tools
• Minimum of 1 year Python experience.
• Good communication skills to translate business requirements into Dashboards
and Reporting
• Proficient in MS Office applications, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project
• Experience in desktop / mobile computer support and troubleshooting software
related problems.
• Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skill in relating technical
information to non-technical personnel.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to independently set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced
environment, a self-starter.
• Excellent inter-personal skills including the ability to work with individuals at all levels
of the organization.
