The Client is transforming, and we need a Content Strategist to help tell that story to the millions of people that we move through the city each day.
The Client runs hundreds of construction projects designed to improve service every year. You’ll sit at the intersection of marketing and our Construction & Development team and help tell their story. This will involve multiple digital channels including Client info, newsletters, and social.
You'll work with Client info’s editor to reach millions of New Yorkers with essential information. This will require working with stakeholders across multiple agencies and project teams to ensure project content is accurate, while rewriting and reorganizing it to be more customer-centric. Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard to find out why there’s a big hole in your street? Did you love that the L Project posters were pink? This is the job for you.
This could be someone with a marketing or journalism background, but we need someone who can both write and also has an eye for web layout.
Your audience will be more than 8 million people per day - and you will be on the front lines of modernizing the Client.
Responsibilities
Create and manage project websites for Client capital construction projects and other major projects.
Coordinate with stakeholders across multiple agencies and project teams to ensure content is compelling, up to date and findable.
Help write and publish newsletters.
Develop customer communication strategies in collaboration with senior management across the spectrum of an organization.
Write content quickly and cleanly. Help edit when needed.
Lay out web pages, organizing them to be rider-first rather than organization-first.
Work with the product team to build new CMS tools and features, serving as an evangelist for content editors.
Recruit editors and writers from various project teams, training them on the CMS and showing them how to update their sections of the website themselves.
Contribute to the text and language standards for the Client, potentially including voice and tone.
Experience
Superior writing ability, including enthusiasm for writing at a lower grade level and simplifying complicated ideas. You should love understanding and explaining things to people.
Experience in marketing, journalism, communications, or some other field where you were forced to write for the public and meet deadlines.
Experience with a CMS (Drupal, Wordpress, or something similar).
Some experience with content design, or at least strong opinions about web page layout.
Ability to collaborate with senior management across the spectrum of an organization while advocating for customer-centric voice and tone.
Experience with product or project management software including JIRA, Trello, Airtable, Asana, or something similar.
Experience managing social channels for a business, brand, or institution is a plus.
Some basic understanding of how to convey information visually, or how to work with designers to use words and pictures to their full effect.
Experience in user-centric principles.
