UPDATED 11/4/22: Manager is requesting more resumes. We're still actively recruiting for this role and would love to get a new round of resumes. We have gotten a mix so far.
We are getting a lot of candidates with design backgrounds, many of whom will list research in their skill set. This can be true, but ideally we are looking for someone with experience in UX research. That means people who have multiple years in a dedicated user research role somewhere on their resume. This could be for digital or physical products.
UPDATED 9/12/22: Manager is requesting more resumes. He has provided individual feedback to posted resumes, and provides general feedback here. Thank you! Sylvia
• Looking for more candidates with demonstrated experience in user research rather than UX or brand designers. There is a difference so we'd want to see resumes with descriptions of user research projects.
• While position is fully remote, they still must be in the NYC tri-state area (at least have access to MTA transportation or NJT system).
• 4+ years of experience in this field. The last round had a lot of people fresh out of accelerator courses and while we love that people are doing that, we need someone with a bit more experience.
*PLEASE NOTE THIS POSITION WILL ALLOW CONSULTANT TO WORK REMOTELY. HOWEVER, AS A UX RESEARCHER, DUTIES WILL OCCASSIONALLY NECESSITATE CONSULTANT TO WORK ONSITE AT CLIENT HEADQUARTERS OR AT TRANSIT STATIONS THROUGHOUT THE NETWORK. THEREFORE, IT WILL BE CRITICAL FOR THE CONSULTANT TO BE LOCAL TO NYC AND ABLE TO TRAVEL TO OUR OFFICE WITHOUT ISSUE, AS NEEDED (AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE).
The Client is building a team of human-centered strategists, designers, writers, and technologists to reimagine the customer experience for the millions of people that we move through the city each day.
We’re looking for a UX Researcher to join this team and play a major role in creating a cohesive and customer-centric look and feel for our products along with building and improving tools for our agency partners.
As a UX Designer at the Client you will be working on our digital products that include Client.info, our mobile apps, and our over 50,000 digital screens rolling out in stations, subways, trains, and buses across our network. You are an advocate for accessibility and equally excited to rebuild and rethink one of the oldest and popular Design Systems known.

- Present research findings that will inform product strategy and design to teammates and stakeholders.
- Create surveys, test concepts, and conduct in-person and remote 1:1 user interviews.
- Help the organization understand which research methods are appropriate to support Client and user needs.
Qualifications
- 4-7 years experience conducting research on digital products, ideally for companies, startups and/or agencies. This is a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using a range of UX research methods such as surveys, concept testing, usability testing, and in-depth interviews.
- Able to run the user research process from start to finish, from recruiting users to synthesizing and presenting insights.
- You recognize and champion diverse perspectives within a large user base. Specific experience in accessibility is ideal.
- Able to prioritize projects and work autonomously.
- You have great communication skills that translate into great presentations, clear direction, and solid documentation.
- Deeply familiar with the product and design processes and adaptable to a range of timeline and feasibility constraints.
