The Payroll Accountant is responsible for performing accounting and related tasks across a variety of areas within the Accounting and Payroll functions.

REPORTS TO:  Director of Accounting Services



  • Accounts Receivable
    • Record daily cash, check, farebox deposits and credit card receipts in Lawson accounting system and reconcile to source detail.
    • Assist with monthly billing and collection of accounts receivable for RTS Monroe and Regional Operations.
    • Follow up as needed with delinquent customers regarding past due balances and bounced checks.
    • Work with Senior Accountant to record payments received through Charter Service Portal.
  • Payroll
    • Assist with conversion of timesheets related to RTS Monroe bus operator payroll.
    • Collect and ensure all employees’ timesheets have been submitted correctly.
    • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and working cooperatively with supervisors.
    • Properly execute the payroll process using Highline HRIS.
    • Verify payroll changes to employee profiles.
    • Prepare financial vouchers for payroll expenses, deductions, and taxes.
    • Distribute checks to employees via internal mailboxes or direct mailing.
    • Maintain and organize payroll records.
    • Assist with the processing of payroll for RTS Monroe and Regional Operations on a bi-weekly basis.
    • Assist with paying payroll taxes and funding payroll.
    • Assist with the administration of weekly payroll claim vouchers.
  • Accounts Payable
    • Assist with the processing of accounts payable.


  • Other duties within Accounting and Payroll, as assigned.


  • Four-year degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Two to four years of experience working in accounting or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


  • Ability to perform a variety of routine duties involving the use of procedures and the application of clearly prescribed standard practice where the employee could make minor decisions and use some judgment.
  • Ability to work from objectives defined by supervisor or by explicit procedures and rules.  Proceeds alone on routine work and refers questionable cases to supervisor.  Finished work not regularly reviewed by supervisor.  Performance of tasks and activities are reviewed by supervisor on a scheduled basis.
  • Strong computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • Strong time management skills; ability to multi-task, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
